Premium NZ-Made Polyester Wadding

Direct-from-manufacturer lofted wadding for upholstery, bedding, and industrial applications. Sustainable, durable, and custom-manufactured in Auckland.

Polyester wadding

Our lofted polyester wadding offers an affordable and lightweight alternative to natural fibre wadding like those made from cotton, wool or silk. It is used as a filler material in bedding products, upholstery, packaging and more. Being inexpensive, polyester stuffing is also ideal for craft projects.

Our polyester wadding is made from recycled manmade materials using a thermal bonding process, which makes it tough and extremely durable. This means it will remain intact over hundreds of washes and will not undergo wear and tear when exposed to sunlight.

This product is available in roll or batt form for your convenience, and like other items in our catalogue, it is 100% recyclable.

Common questions about polyester wadding

Polyester wadding is a versatile, lofted textile used across several industries due to its durability and moisture resistance. Common applications include:

  • Furniture & Upholstery: Provides a smooth, padded wrap for foam cushions and sofa backings to prevent fabric wear.

  • Bedding & Soft Furnishings: Used as a hypoallergenic fill for quilts, duvets, and mattress toppers to provide “loft” and thermal warmth.

  • Industrial Filtration: Its dense fibre structure makes it an effective medium for air and liquid filters.

  • Acoustic & Thermal Insulation: Utilised in construction and automotive linings to dampen sound and regulate temperature.

  • Protective Packaging: Offers lightweight, shock-absorbent cushioning for shipping delicate goods.

The ideal GSM (Grams per Square Meter) for upholstery depends on the level of “loft” and padding required. For standard furniture cushions and sofa wraps, a medium-to-heavy weight of 170GSM to 270GSM is recommended to provide a smooth finish and prevent fabric friction against foam.

If you are working on heavy-duty commercial seating, you may require a higher density (300GSM+), whereas light decorative cushions or quilt-backing may only require 100GSM to 150GSM. Choosing the correct GSM ensures the perfect balance of comfort, aesthetic fullness, and long-term durability.

The choice between polyester and wool wadding depends on your project’s environment and budget.

  • Polyester Wadding: A high-performance synthetic option known for its consistency and durability. It is naturally moisture-resistant and hypoallergenic, making it ideal for high-use upholstery, outdoor gear, and industrial filtration where cost-efficiency and longevity are the primary goals.

  • Wool Wadding: A premium natural fibre that offers superior breathability and temperature regulation. It is the preferred choice for luxury bedding and high-end apparel where moisture-wicking and natural insulation properties are prioritised.

We manufacture both options here in New Zealand, allowing you to select the material that best aligns with your performance requirements. For more information on our natural fibre wadding products, click here.

Polyester wadding is a versatile material referred to by different names depending on the industry and application. Common synonyms include:

  • In Upholstery: Often called Dacron or polyester padding, used to wrap foam for a professional finish.

  • In Quilting & Crafts: Frequently referred to as polyester batting or polyfill.

  • In Manufacturing & Textiles: Known as polyester fibrefill, synthetic wadding, or PET fibre.

  • In General Use: Sometimes simply called stuffing or lofted polyester.

No matter the terminology used in your specifications, we can manufacture our wadding to meet the density and loft requirements associated with any of these industry standards.
